Ms. Sandy Jue
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to a great and exciting new year! My name is Ms. Jue and I will be the 7th grade math teacher in Room 406. I’ve been teaching for 8 years and I’m truly lucky to be teaching at such an awesome school like Smyser. With your partnership, I want to give your children the best possible education they deserve and I hope to do that through good parent/teacher communication. Our goal at Smyser is to make sure every child grows and learns in the least restrictive environment. We will do this by making sure that homework is a very important part of their daily routine, with the appropriate assessments to monitor progress, and of course have fun with all the learning that takes place. Here are a few reminders of what is to be expected in my classroom:

Homework:
There will be Reading/LA and Math homework daily. Recess will be taken away if students choose not to do it. Students will also have the opportunity to stay after school to finish it in order to get full credit. If a child cannot stay after school on that specific day, then he/she can come in the next morning at 8:30 a.m. to finish it, but not for full credit. After that, it will be a zero.
Homework will be posted daily at the Smyser website. Also, it is the children’s responsibility to make sure they write it down before they go home. I will not write this down as homework everyday, but they do need to spend at least 30 minutes reading a book of their choice.

Home Folders:
Every Friday, I will pass out the Smyser home folder for parents/guardians to monitor the weekly progress of their child. Parents or guardians are advised to look through these assignments and please remember to sign it before your child brings it back on the following Monday. You will know when there are missing assignments because there will be a tracking system for that on the signature sheet.

Rules:
It is important that students learn in a safe and comfortable environment. We will go over all the rules and discipline codes in the classroom and if students break these rules, these are the consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Loss of recess privileges
3. Phone call home and/or detention
4. If behavior is not resolved, then a parent, teacher, and administrator conference will be held to address the issue.

I cannot stress how important it is for your child to work hard and try their best in the classroom. Again, with your collaboration, we will make this a wonderful school year by using positive reinforcement and having good communication. I can be easily reached at sjue@cps.edu or you can schedule an appointment with me in the morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on Monday through Friday. Thank you for your support and giving me the opportunity to give your child a great education.
