Smyser School PTO Walk-A-Thon

Once again, the Smyser PTO is planning a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for our school and to promote healthy living. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 7, 2010. We are seeking sponsors, supporters, and volunteers.

Dear Benefactors, Parents, and Friends of Smyser School:

For over seventy-five years, Washington D. Smyser School has educated thousands of children and has been an anchor for generations of families in the Portage Park and Dunning communities. Our school’s mission is to provide high quality educational services to our children and community. During the past five years, we have updated our technology infrastructure, expanded educational offerings, offered extensive extra-curricular programming, and utilized progressive and innovative methods for educating our youth. As a result of hard work and academic achievement, we have achieved Autonomous Management and Performance School status.

A large part of our success can be attributed to the infinite support and fundraising efforts of our Smyser Parent Teacher Organization. Altruistic and selfless, the Smyser PTO supports children, parents, teachers, and the entire school community. Their donations have funded new classroom furniture, technology hardware, school beautification projects, music enhancement, sports teams, fieldtrips, classroom projects, awards, evening events, end of year celebrations, and much more.

Once again, the Smyser PTO is planning a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for our school and to promote healthy living. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 7, 2010. We are seeking sponsors, supporters, and volunteers. For a $175 sponsorship donation, your business or message will be featured on our school website, Walk-a-Thon t-shirt, Smyser Sponsorship Book, and our monthly newsletter. New this year is a tiered donation program that allows you to support our school at your own comfort level. You can showcase your business or place your message in variety of ways. Please, refer to the attached sheet for lay-out and pricing options. We have over one-thousand children attending our school. Your message will reach all of our families and a large part of our community.

Along with the support of local businesses, we are seeking sponsorships and pledges from families, friends, and students. Our entire school community is working hard to make this event a success. In today’s dire fiscal crisis, now more then ever your help is needed. Funding for education continues to be reduced and schools must raise external funds to sustain programming.
