Once again, the Smyser PTO is planning a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for our school and to promote healthy living. The event is scheduled for Friday, May 7, 2010. We are seeking sponsors, supporters, and volunteers.

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Early Registration
Early registration for kindergarten and preschool is scheduled for the week of April 19-23, 2010.

Local School Council Elections
As the Local School Council election approaches, I would like to invite you to learn more about the candidates running at our school. A Candidate Forum will be held on April 14th at 6:15 PM in the Smyser School auditorium.

CEO Huberman Budget Briefing to Principals
On March 15th, Mr Huberman, CEO of the Chicago Public School addressed administrators on the current school funding crisis. If you have any questions, you may contact Mr. Travlos.

After-School Updates
Smyser Accelerated School is extremely proud to announce that over 340 students were served in our After-School Programs this school year. Students in benchmark grades 3, 6, and 8 were able to benefit from smaller group instruction in our Academic Reading Program, better-preparing them for the mandatory ISAT battery of tests.

Smyser Class of 2010 Trip Information
ISAT testing is almost over and our students continue to work hard preparing for high school. On Tuesday, March 9th at 5:30 PM, our 8th grade parent committee is meeting to plan upcoming events and fundraisers to offset the cost of the 8th grade banquet. With your input, our 8th grade trip has been finalized. A local trip visiting and celebrating Chicago has been planned. The trip is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19th.
