The School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement (SIPAAA) is the biannual planning process for the Chicago Public Schools. Both the planning and approval processes are mandated by Illinois state law. The SIPAAA process conforms to these guidelines while encouraging meaningful reflection, analysis, and priority setting by school-level teams.

There are six Essential steps in SIPAAA planning:
  • Gather input from faculty and other stakeholders.
  • Revisit the school vision and mission and revise as necessary
  • Analyze the school's data.
    • Outcome data is organized around the School Scorecard categories.
      • Student outcomes
      • Academic progress
      • Student connection
      • School characteristics
    • Process data is organized around the Five Fundamentals.
      • Instruction
      • Instructional Leadership
      • Professional Capacity
      • Learning Climate
      • Family and Community Involvement
  • Identify all areas of work within the school and select up to nine categories. Establish target outcomes and Indicators of Success/Key Performance Indicators for each category.
  • Detail all activities within each category.
  • Allocate budget funds for each activity as needed.
